Diversified Agricultural Studies
PROGRAM DEFINITION
Students in the Diversified Agricultural Studies major are prepared to deal with the many and varied challenges of the field of agriculture. They have a broad educational experience and the opportunity to focus in one or more subject matter areas that they feel will benefit them in their future or that they are particularly interested in.
NEBRASKA POINTS OF DISTINCTION
• The interdisciplinary nature of the program provides flexibility for students to build strong competencies in one or more minors in agricultural sciences and/or natural resources.
• Coursework taken from five categories and at least four different program areas provides a broad understanding of agricultural sciences and natural resources.
• Integrated cropping and/or animal holistic farm management approach.
• Areas of emphasis in precision agricultural (GIS technology) and sustainable agriculture.
• Students are advised by faculty members from a broad range of disciplines.
FACILITIES
The Diversified Agriculture program at UNL is a college-wide major that involves faculty, classrooms, and laboratories from across the campus to provide students with a diversity of educational and experiential experiences during their college careers. Coursework extends beyond the classroom to field experience and UNL research centers. Students can take advantage of the C.Y. Thompson Library located on our campus as well as numerous computer laboratories across the campus.
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS (What’s expected of you as an undergraduate student)
• Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 out of a total of 4.0.
• Students are also required to enroll in a capstone course taught in a department within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources that will allow them to educationally package their academic experience during their senior year.
