Plant Protection Sciences

PROGRAM DEFINITION
Each plant protection sciences major studies a core curriculum that provides a comprehensive look at plant protection encompassing course work in entomology, plant protection sciences and weed science. Core classes automatically qualify students for a minor in biological sciences. Beyond the core classes, students create their own specialized program of study in the area of their personal interests. Students with interests in crop production, horticulture or natural resources find plant protection sciences an excellent major to fulfill their career goals.

NEBRASKA POINTS OF DISTINCTION
Students can specialize in one of three options:
  1. Entomology — will prepare you for a career in a variety of educational, scientific, or service enterprises by balancing your studies in the agricultural and biological sciences.
  2. Plant Pathology — will best prepare you for graduate school or for employment in academic, private enterprise and government.
  3. Weed Science — will prepare you for graduate study in agronomy or employment with farm management and consulting firms, agricultural cooperatives, chemical companies, custom pesticide applicators, and state or federal research and extension agencies.
