  Kristin Ahrens
As a Food Science and Technology student from Lincoln, Kristin Ahrens worked side-by-side with CASNR faculty to study how beneficial bacteria aid the human intestinal system. Working with food scientists, she learned how to design and conduct experiments and interpret the results to improve food safety and human health.

  Jessie Bauman
Jessie Bauman, an Animal Science student and President of the UNL Rodeo Club enjoys interacting with her peers and faculty through CASNR’s many clubs and organizations.  As a member of the UNL Rodeo Club, Bauman has been very involved with planning and facilitating the Annual UNL Rodeo as well as many other club activities.  Her involvement in the club has allowed her to utilize much of her animal science knowledge and continue building her network for the future.

  Neal Ely
Neal Ely, an Agribusiness student, received the Star in Agribusiness Award for his Ely Farms Pickled Asparagus Spears at the 2006 National FFA convention. His products are sold in grocery, gift, liquor and gourmet stores across Nebraska and in surrounding states. For students, time is limited, but Neal’s classes complement each other and his business classes teach skills needed for his own company.

 Jeanine Frey
Jeanine Frey, a Biochemistry graduate from Hays Springs, Nebraska, was one of 323 students nationwide to receive the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. The prestigious undergraduate scholarship is designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, natural sciences and engineering. Jeanine took advantage of many of the opportunities provided through CASNR such as hands-on research with faculty, studied in England, mentored younger students and served as the co-president of the Biochemistry Club. She is continuing with her biochemistry doctoral program.

  Fraser MacDonald
An internship provided Fraser MacDonald, Environmental Studies graduate, an opportunity to learn all about Nebraska by marking timber and participating in Timber Stand Improvement while working for the Nebraska Forest Service.   The Loveland, Colorado native learned about Nebraska's birds, insects, grasses and wildflowers and benefited by meeting different people, doing research and learning more about plants and forestry, all which will help in his future career.

Kyle Perry
Animal Science student Kyle Perry spent the last summer working for the National FFA Organization as a trainer for the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. As a trainer, he worked with high school students from across the nation to develop their leadership potential. The most rewarding aspects of his opportunity were seeing students develop relationships with each other and trainers, as well as change their mindset of leadership from a title to a desire to simply want to help other people.

 Mikki Schmidt
Animal Science student Mikki Schmidt had the opportunity of a lifetime when she studied abroad in Queensland, Australia for a semester.  Studying abroad gave Schmidt an opportunity to see new places, meet new people, and gain a global perspective of the Animal Science industry.

  Kyle Schmit
A fascination with computers and a farming background helped Kyle Schmit, a Mechanized Systems Management student, secure a paid summer internship in the irrigation industry.  Traveling to places like Colorado and Idaho through the internship has inspired him to seek a career following graduation which utilizes his degree and allows him to travel throughout the world.

Natalie Sukup
Horticulture student Natalie Sukup enjoys creating unique designs for her architectural landscaping class. Through her participation in local and national chapters of the Students of Agronomy, Soils and Environmental Sciences, Sukup is expanding her learning opportunities and developing leadership skills.

 Bryttni Westlake
As a transfer student, it can be difficult to become involved in a new place and truly make it your home.  However, Bryttni says transferring to UNL could not have been easier!  The staff and faculty are very welcoming and accommodating.  She quickly become involved in activities, met several new people, and made lots of new friends.  Bryttni joined Block and Bridle, the Livestock Judging Team, and serves as a College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) Ambassador.  She's receiving a quality education and building her resume through extra-curricular activities. She says she could not have made a better choice in choosing this university to help build her future.

 Melissa Williams
Melissa Williams, a Senior Agribusiness student from Fairbury, Nebraska has taken advantage of the study abroad programs CASNR has to offer.  By taking part in a three-week study abroad program to France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, Melissa learned a great deal about agricultural production and processing in the European Union.  Through a second study abroad tour to Puerto Rico during spring break, Melissa gained knowledge about tropical agriculture and ecosystems.  Both of these opportunities allowed Melissa to gain valuable knowledge about international agriculture and natural resources while earning credit towards a degree.
