Assistant Professor of Youth Civic Leadership

What drew you to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

I was drawn to UNL because of the land-grant mission and how it is enacted at this institution. From extension, teaching, and research, it’s clear that the work we do is expected to positively impact Nebraskans and beyond. Framing my work within the land-grant missions is a privilege.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

I love the collaborative environment within education. Not only do I feel pushed to make sure my work is impactful, I also feel supported by my colleagues, students and role-models from across the institution.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

It’s hard for me to think that there’s anything I’ve done in my professional life that will make me more proud than to have served in the U.S. Army. Even though I enlisted nearly 20 years ago, I still draw lessons from my experiences to help me today.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

Because I live in Omaha and drive to Lincoln every day, I have listened to over 5,000 hours of podcasts (or over 208 days).

What is your life like outside of work?

I spend my free time with my wife Emily and our one-year-old daughter Harriet. We like to travel, watch football (Huskers and Chiefs) and go to the farmer’s market.
