What is your position at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

Professor of animal science and extension beef genetics specialist

What drew you to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln?

The legacy of the animal breeding and genetics group at UNL and the proximity to the US Meat Animal Research Center. The animal breeding and genetics group at UNL has a long and rich history and is recognized as a world leader. I simply wanted to be part of one of the best animal genetics groups in the world. The US Meat Animal Research center is also recognized globally for their expertise in animal genetics and I wanted to work closely with their scientists.

What aspect of working in an educational setting do you enjoy the most?

I have the opportunity to constantly learn something new. Some of this is from colleagues, and some comes from talented students.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I have none personally, but I have had the opportunity to help some tremendous graduate students and postdocs do amazing work. I am very proud of them. I have also had the pleasure to help colleagues that have been very successful. I have also enjoyed helping industry (producer, breeding companies, breed associations) utilize new technologies and advance animal agriculture.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I have never liked groups of people. It seems that I’m an introvert that plays an extrovert during the day.

What is your life like outside of work?

I enjoy the outdoors, fishing and hunting, and spending time with my wife.
