4. Opportunities to Join the University’s Flood Response Efforts

A new University of Nebraska Foundation Emergency Assistance Fund also is accepting donations to support students and employees who face sudden financial hardship resulting from natural disasters, home displacement, food security or other crises.

Supporting Nebraskans
Building off a successful model with the Rural Futures Institute, we will fund 50 Flood Recovery Serviceships for University of Nebraska students this summer. The program will place students in impacted communities across Nebraska, with a focus on:

  • Engaging local leaders active in flood recovery efforts and contributing in ways that add value.
  • Identifying service projects (immediate or longer-term) that could be addressed by teams of students, staff or faculty, and facilitating projects to be conducted this summer.
  • Representing the University of Nebraska and connecting our resources with local needs.

The application to participate in the Flood Recovery Serviceship program can be found here.

5. Food & Ag Innovation Meetup

Tuesday, April 30th at 4-5pm at The Mill on Innovation Campus

Food & Ag Innovation Meetup provides a monthly opportunity for those interested in the next generation of innovation in the food and agriculture space to exchange ideas, experiences, and connections with other entrepreneurs, investors, students, and industry professionals. Events include talks from guest speakers, in-person or virtually, and the chance to share a drink or two with your local peers.

Virtual Guest Speakers: Dan Kurzrock & Jordan Schwartz of ReGrained. Dan Kurzrock had a lightbulb moment while in the middle of his hobby of brewing beer. That moment was ReGrained: a company that rescues the nutritious grain created every time that beer is brewed. The company upcycles this grain into SuperGrain flour and incorporates it into products such as the Honey Cinnamon IPA Bar and the Chocolate Coffee Stout Bar.

The company has entered multiple chains of grocery stores across the country and is available in Nebraska at Fresh Thyme. This presentation will be a discussion on how ReGrained grew from a concept to a nationally distributed brand.

Interested students and professionals can join the NE Ag/Food Tech LinkedIn group for updates on future events.
