Job Search Guide

This comprehensive Job Search Guide is a valuable tool for finding job and internship opportunities, writing your resume and cover letters, creating a Handshake and LinkedIn profile, preparing for interviews, negotiating job offers, and more!

Handshake

Handshake is UNL's on-line connection between students/alumni and employers hiring for part-time, internship and full-time positions. Handshake is a free service for current UNL students and alumni. It's easy to create your account then post your resume, search employers and listings, request on-campus interviews and stay updated on career opportunities and events.  Check out this video tutorial to learn how to search for jobs, events and employers!

Résumé Labs

Come to a Résumé Lab to work on your résumé, cover letter, or Handshake account with help from our Peer Career Coaches! Bring your computer, ask questions, get feedback, make edits as you go, and walk out with an improved document.  No appointment is needed.  You may come and go during lab hours.

Informational Interviews

Informational interviews are an excellent way to make new connections and create a more strategic network in your fields of interest.  These interviews involve talking with people currently working in a career field in which you are interested to gain a better understanding of an occupation, organization, or industry.  Ask for information, ideas, suggestions, and referrals to others with relevant information.  However, it is not appropriate to ask for a job during an informational interview.

Use Big Interview to learn and practice your interview skills. You will get hands-on practice with mock interviews tailored to your specific industry, job and experience level.

Federal Job Resources

Job opportunities with the U.S. government are available in many career fields.
