Federal Resumes

Effective September 2025, federal resumes are now restricted to two pages or less.  If an applicant only submits a resume that is more than two pages, they will be disqualified.  Be sure to carefully review all of the resources below as there are some important differences in federal resumes vs. private sector resumes.  For example, federal resumes require that you include the number of hours worked per week for each job.

Tips:

  • Read the job announcement carefully as some of them will specify certain things that they require to be included in your resume.
  • Make your USAJobs profile and resume searchable.  Here's why:

    - Making your resume searchable adds it to the USAJobs resume bank.

    - Hiring authorities use the resume bank to search for candidates who meet their criteria to fill their job vacancies.

    - You are allowed to store up to five versions of your resume in USAJobs.  Only one of the five can be made searchable at a time.

    - Only MS Word documents, text-based PDFs, text files, and resumes created using the Resume Builder are searchable.

    - Your resume will only remain searchable for 18 months unless it is renewed.

    - If your profile is complete, it will also be searchable.
