CASNR Students Learn by Doing
Cedar Point Biological Station
UNL’s biological field station offers a variety of 3-week courses that provide an opportunity to learn in the field and enjoy the beauty of western Nebraska and Lake Ogallala. Your advisor can help you find a way to use a Cedar Point course in your degree plan!
Beef Industry Study Tour
In the Beef Industry Study Tour class, students plan a tour throughout Nebraska and Colorado to visit several ranches, feedlots, and processing plants to fully explore each sector of the beef industry.
Prairie Cranes and Sandhills Chickens Course
During spring break, students have the opportunity to travel to central Nebraska to observe sandhill cranes along the Platte River. The trip is part of "Prairie Cranes and Sandhill Chickens," a one-credit course offered by the School of Natural Resources. Over several days, students watch cranes roost along the Platte River before traveling north to the Nebraska Sandhills to observe prairie chickens in their native habitat. Following the trip, each student creates a project reflecting on what they witnessed and learned in the field.
Red Card Training
The Red Card training program is designed to get more young Nebraskans educated in firefighting and fire prevention. The program begins with online coursework before bringing students out to East Campus for a field day to work and learn alongside professionals.
