Our graduates work in greenhouses, nurseries, field operations, golf courses, sports fields, parks, botanical gardens, arboreta and universities.
Real-World Experiences
Students are required to complete two internships as part of their graduation requirements. You are encouraged to complete these internships with different businesses to experience various facets of the ag industry and boost your professional network.
Scholarships
The Department of Agronomy and Horticulture offers scholarships to students enrolled in the plant and landscape systems major. Each year, approximately 30 students receive departmental scholarships that total more than $65,000.
Notable Courses
Horticultural Plant Science Laboratory (PLAS 133)
Explore plant physiology, cell anatomy and plant growth through industry practices. Emphasis on intensive production systems appropriate to specialty and greenhouse grown horticultural plants.
Woody Plants for Landscapes: Identification, Management and Use (PLAS 212)
Identification, basic management and design uses of trees and shrubs for sustainable landscapes. Emphasis on native plants and live specimens in outdoor environments.
Plant Propagation (PLAS 221)
Practice different methods of plant propagation and explore the effects of environmental management on propagation success using the scientific method.
Introductory Turfgrass Management (PLAS 227)
Introduction to turfgrasses, including management and use within the industry.
Introduction to Landscape Design Studio (PLAS 267)
Process and elements used to design sustainable residential and small urban landscapes.
Greenhouse Practices and Management (PLAS 306)
Principles and practices involved in the development, operation and use of greenhouses and other protected plant growth environments.

Stacy Adams, Professor of Practice
Stacy Adams is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture. His focus is in hydroponic plant production, controlled environment agriculture, greenhouse applications, development, modification and hops in Nebraska. He earned his B.S. in Horticulture from Kansas State University and M.S. in Horticulture from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
